ProPublica: Trump’s Defense Secretary Cites Climate Change as National Security Challenge

In his confirmation hearing testimony, Secretary of Defense James Mattis said, “Climate change is impacting stability in areas of the world where our troops are operating today.

He said it was incumbent on the U.S. military to consider how changes like open-water routes in the thawing Arctic and drought in global trouble spots can pose challenges for troops and defense planners, and stressed that it is a real-time issue, not some distant what-if.

It’s a contradiction of the climate change views of the Trump Administration.

We need to respect General Mattis for calling it like it is, and who is willing to challenge the ignorance of Donald Trump’s Administration over the reality of climate change..
