The Way to Fight Terrorism Is to Eliminate Its Root Causes

The way to fight world terrorism is not by perpetuating more violence, but by eliminating its root causes: poverty, social inequality, a lack of education, and a lack of respect for human rights. Moreover, the importance of religion must be deemphasized. According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization “violence begins from the mind.” This means removing children from violent circumstances, and raising the world’s children in healthy, safe environments, making sure they have a good primary education, and are free from religious influences.

For those who say, “good words, but poverty, social inequality, a lack of education, and a lack of respect for human rights has been going on since the beginning of time. It’s in the Old Testament. We can control it but we can't eliminate it.” I say, we must free ourselves, particularly our children, from the religious influences that dictate over reason and conscience.

I am always reminded of the quote of George Bernard Shaw, famously referenced by RFK, “You see things; and you say, ‘Why?’ But I dream things that never were; and I say, ‘Why not?’" We should always ask ourselves that question: “Why not.” Why can't we change the course of terrorism has taken by eliminating its causes, and maybe not eliminate it but significantly marginalize it.

Bernie Sanders: “Defending America’s Vital Strategic Interest”

As a veteran of the Iraq War,
Congresswoman Gabbard understands the cost of war
and is fighting to create a foreign policy that not only protects
America but keeps us out of perpetual wars
that we should not be in.
The only time war is justified is in the direct, unquestionable life or death defense of our country. Yet, every Republican presidential candidate believes in the use of force in order to protect our vital interest, so does Hillary Clinton.

Voting for any Republican presidential candidate, or Hillary Clinton, is essentially a vote for the perpetuation of America’s wars . . .  more killing, more atrocities, more lives destroyed. The protecting vital interest phrase is standard rhetoric Presidents use to justify invasions and military occupations of other countries.

T here is inconceivable massacres that take place in every war. The United States is not an exception. Deplorably, the military and government attempt to whitewash these crimes. They’re only brought to light when participants or witnesses courageously report them. Cover-ups keep Americans in the dark, but when they learn of them, they attribute these mass murders to the “fog of war,” or accept them as an inevitable part of war.

Remembering My Lai, the Day American’s Slaughtered Five Hundred South Vietnamese, Including Children and Babies

One of many photos taken by United States
in the aftermath of the My Lai massacre
showing mostly women and children dead on a road.
Forty-eight
years ago, on Saturday morning, March 16, 1968, 18-year-old Truong Moi, a fisherman from the hamlet of My Lai in Quang Ngai Province, South Vietnam, went out to check the fishnets he had set in a nearby river. Troung was a member of a community of about 700 people, including the hamlet of My Khe. They lived in thatch-roofed huts and redbrick homes in the village of Son My, located on Vietnam’s South Central Coast. My Lai and My Khe were quiet and peaceful hamlets, for the most part untouched by the war.

Automated and autonomous systems are becoming more prevalent and capable of doing more things. These systems will continue to change the way we produce products, how we provide services, and how they are distributed.
