Robert Reich -- Trump’s xenophobic immigration plan is rooted in the same old myths (VIDEO)

Despite President Trump’s past claims that he would not cut legal immigration, on Wednesday said he backs legislation -- a skills-based immigration system -- that would cut immigration in half and made it much more difficult for people to immigrate to the U.S. legally.

The president said it would be “the most significant reform to our immigration system in half a century” and would “reduce poverty, increase wages and save taxpayers billions and billions of dollars.”

He also said the current green card system provides a “fast-track to citizenship.The fact is that having a green card is the standard path to citizenship.

Trump said the legislation would favor applicants “who can speak English, financially support themselves and their families, and demonstrate skills that will contribute to our economy.

Robert Reich calls it another xenophobic plan rooted in the same old myths about immigrants. In truth, new immigrants help grow the economy, expand the workforce and pay billions in taxes.

Don't listen to the demagogues who want to blame the problems of the poor and middle-class on new immigrants.
