President Obama’s Passionate Plea for Tightened Gun Regulations

Well, as expected, Presidents Obama’s earnest call to tighten gun regulations through executive order has been a windfall for gun companies. Their stocks soared on the expectation that tightened gun regulations will make it harder for responsible gun owners to buy a gun. It seems to me that responsible gun owners, who supposedly obey the gun laws, should have no problem with tightening regulations to keep guns from people who should not own guns — terrorist, criminals, the mentally ill. As President Obama said, “A majority of gun owners agree that we can respect the Second Amendment while keeping an irresponsible law-breaking few form inflicting harm on a massive scale.”

And, as expected, there are people who believe President Obama’s emotions, when he mentioned the children’s’ lives lost in the Sandy Hook elementary school shootings, were fake. Fox News contributor Andrea Tantaros suggested President Obama used raw onions to fake tears while he was talking about school shootings. She said, “I would check that podium for like a raw onion or some no-more-tears, I mean, it’s not really believable.”

The President also acknowledged the kids gunned down on the streets of Chicago In doing so, he acknowledged that their lives were not worth any less than the children’s lives lost in Sandy Hook.

Then there are critics who believe the President is determined to confiscate their guns.

If you have not done so, it’s worthwhile to watch and listen to the President’s entire speech. It’s a forceful, logical, and compelling summary of what gun violence has done to our country. We have a moral obligation to do something about it. “We need to feel a sense of urgency.”

Later, President Obama faced supporters and non-supporters alike at a town meeting led by CNN’s Anderson Cooper. It, too, is worthwhile to watch and listen.

Every Republican presidential candidate is against gun regulations. Except for Rand Paul, they all are for using military force as their primary foreign policy tool. And their stances on social issues, as well, are good reasons why not one Republican deserves the vote of the American people for President.
